Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club ball marker

This stemmed ball marker I won from an eBay auction arrived today.  I'd consider it a different variety as the rim has some reeding; the one that I wrote about on 7 December 2011 has a plain rim.

Abu Dhabi Golf Championship (2011 & 2012) ball marker

My wife and I went today to Round 3 of the 2012 Abu Dhabi Golf Championship.  By the afternoon, they had also began giving away golf kits containing a ball marker, pitch fork, tee, etc.  The stemmed ball marker is the same one that had been given away last year--it has the red sticker on its face.

Abu Dhabi Golf Championship (2012) ball markers

My wife and I went today for Round 2 of the 2012 Abu Dhabi Golf Championship at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club.  I was able to purchase two different markers: one from the booth of the host Abu Dhabi Golf Club; the other, from that of Golf House. Whereas a stemmed ball marker was part of the freebie package given last year, the only gift for attendees this year was a small folding chair.

Dubai World Champtionship (2009?) ball marker

This stemmed ball marker I won from an eBay auction arrived yesterday.  It was probably issued in 2009 as I don't recall seeing any stemmed ball markers when I went to the merchandise outlet in the 2010 & 2011 championships.

Montgomerie (Dubai) ball markers

Upon closer inspection, I noticed that there appear to be different production runs of the stemmed, wooden ball markers from The Montgomerie.   I came up with seven (7) varieties from the lot of markers that I have:

Variety Surface Face Level Face
Thickness
Color Stem
#1 rough flat thick light brown short
#2 rough flat thick medium light brown long, pointed
#3 rough flat thick medium light brown long, slightly pointed
#4 smooth slightly concave thick light brown short
#5 smooth flat thin light brown long, slightly pointed
#6 smooth flat thin medium light brown long, slightly pointed
#7 smooth flat thick brown long, blunt

First of all, different shades of wood had been used (see picture below).  In addition, if you touch the face, you will notice that it can either be rough or smooth.  Most of the faces are flat, but there was one that was slightly concave.

The marker also varied in thickness (see picture below): some were thinner and flatter, while others were thicker and more convex.

Lastly, the stems came in different sizes (see picture below).  They could either be shorter and thicker, or longer and thinner.  The ends of the longer stems ranged from being pointed to blunt.

Montgomerie (Dubai) ball markers

Yesterday, my wife played at The Montgomerie for another round of ladies interclub competition. She got a stemmed, wooden ball marker (on the right: there were many of them on display in the golf shop months ago and I tried purchasing a piece, but I was told it's given only to those who finish 18 holes)...and she also purchased a newly-designed ball marker (on the left).
