Montgomerie (Dubai; 2014) ball marker

Before dropping by the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters at the Emirates Golf Club, I dropped by The Montgomerie and purchased a ball marker that came with Callaway balls.

assorted ball markers (UAE; 2014)

My wife and I went to Dubai Mall last weekend to do some shopping.  As usual, I dropped by the Golf House outlet, and I was surprised that its floor area had been halved.  I've been so busy with work lately that I haven't had the chance to go around the UAE to scout new ball markers, so I was fortunate that Golf House was selling markers from its outlets in four golf clubs:
  • The Montgomerie
  • Jebel Ali Golf Resort
  • Abu Dhabi City Golf Club
  • Arabian Ranches Golf Club

Montgomerie (Dubai) ball markers

Upon closer inspection, I noticed that there appear to be different production runs of the stemmed, wooden ball markers from The Montgomerie.   I came up with seven (7) varieties from the lot of markers that I have:

Variety Surface Face Level Face
Thickness
Color Stem
#1 rough flat thick light brown short
#2 rough flat thick medium light brown long, pointed
#3 rough flat thick medium light brown long, slightly pointed
#4 smooth slightly concave thick light brown short
#5 smooth flat thin light brown long, slightly pointed
#6 smooth flat thin medium light brown long, slightly pointed
#7 smooth flat thick brown long, blunt

First of all, different shades of wood had been used (see picture below).  In addition, if you touch the face, you will notice that it can either be rough or smooth.  Most of the faces are flat, but there was one that was slightly concave.

The marker also varied in thickness (see picture below): some were thinner and flatter, while others were thicker and more convex.

Lastly, the stems came in different sizes (see picture below).  They could either be shorter and thicker, or longer and thinner.  The ends of the longer stems ranged from being pointed to blunt.

Montgomerie (Dubai) ball markers

Yesterday, my wife played at The Montgomerie for another round of ladies interclub competition. She got a stemmed, wooden ball marker (on the right: there were many of them on display in the golf shop months ago and I tried purchasing a piece, but I was told it's given only to those who finish 18 holes)...and she also purchased a newly-designed ball marker (on the left).
